There is a lot that can be done in the awesome city of Seoul. It especially doesn’t take long to realise that shopping and dining experiences in this South Korean capital city is second to none.
Beyond the surface of the modern skyscrapers and extravagant marketplaces, you’ll find that Seoul is rich in history, mountains and parks, countless village neighbourhoods and a fascinating Korean culture.
We could go on and on about the wonders and excitement that Seoul has to offer but we have some of our favourites here. Here’s a list of 10 of the top things you can experience in Seoul!
CULTURE AND HISTORY
#1. Gyeongbukgung Palace
When it comes to Seoul’s most renowned historical attractions, this is it! Unsurprisingly, Gyeongbukgung Palace is one of the most visited sites in the city. It is one of the main palaces that was used during the Korean Joseon Dynasty and was constructed at the end of the 14th century. Unfortunately, the palace was left to ruin when the Japanese had invaded not long after - but some 200 years back, rebuilding and remodelling efforts were made to revive this remarkable place.
The wide-spanning palace grounds allows you to explore the interesting building as well as to check out the gardens. Additionally, you have to see the palace courtyard which rests plenty of clay pots that are used to store and ferment kimchi!
With entrance fees only at 3,000 Won (approx. RM 11) per person, this palace is a definite MUST visit for those exploring Seoul.
#2. Bukchon Hanok Village
Just adjacent to the Gyeongbukgung Palace - Bukchon Hanok is one of the most interesting things you can in Seoul. You can explore the street while checking out the welcoming antique Korean traditional home and have plenty of fun doing so!
Respectfully explore the cultural nuances of Korean life and relish in authentic and traditional aspects of Korean customs. If you’re really interested, you can even have your stay at one of these guests houses.
If you follow the main walking route, you can find little restaurants and boutique shops that offer great foods and Korean products for your enjoyment.
SHOPPING AT SEOUL
#3. Myeongdong Shopping
Are you in love with shopping? Well here you have some of the very best, busiest and most shopper-centric places in town!
From the latest Korean beauty and fashion products to unique neon-coloured sneakers, there are all kinds of stores here in this extravagant outdoor mall.
If shopping is not your thing, fret not! Here, you can find a myriad of selections of restaurants, street food stalls, towering ice cream cones, and snacks everywhere you look.
With millions of shoppers and wanderers, this place has a very special vibrance to it! Just being a part of it is a special experience in and of itself! And if you’re looking to shop and eat- EVEN BETTER!
This is another wild Seoul shopping destination that isn’t confined to a single market. In fact, the entire area is dedicated to shopping! Whatever you can imagine, Dongdaemun will have it ready to sell to you!
Again, even if you’re not into shopping, there are plenty of delicious things you can eat here as well as a lot of very entertaining things for you to observe! So, eat and enjoy the atmosphere. But if you’re looking to shop, this place is really something special!
#5. Lotte World
Lotte World is a very popular magical amusement park in Seoul. It is one of the biggest indoor parks in the world! They also have an outdoor park called the Magic Island. Both in and outdoors is full of thrilling and adventurous rides and activities!
If you’re looking for some exciting and unforgettable moments in Seoul or just want to have great fun, Lotte World is for you!
#6. Korean Street Food
Easily one of our very favourite things to do in Seoul is to explore the endless range of street foods this city has to offer.
Perfect for those looking for a quick bite and on the go, the food is served piping hot and is freshly made to your liking! You have to try the famous tornado potato or the very interesting french fry encased hot dog.
#7. Korean Barbecue
For dinner, Korean Barbucue is a treat you don’t want to miss here in Seoul! Made famous around the world, Korean Barbecue in Seoul is at its best. Literally heaven on earth, if you’re like us, you won’t get enough of it!
You’ll have loads of fun when you grill your favourite meats together with your family and friends. It's truly a great way to socialise as well as enjoy delicious food with your loved ones.
#8. Ice Cream Selections
If you hadn’t already known, Koreans make amazing ice-cream! It is not just fresh but beautifully presented too! There are so many delicious flavours, it is worth trying many when you get the chance to.
