RM15 Burberry coat, anyone?
Posted on 24 June 2019
If you love shopping but you’re also thinking “Not in this economy!”, then you should definitely try thrift store shopping. Although some people might think it’s yuck to sift through someone else’s unwanted goods, you’ll be surprised at how often you’d come across hidden gems like an authentic Burberry coat for RM15... excuse me, what? Besides, while we love our fast fashion brands like UNIQLO and ZARA, they can be expensive, unethical and unsustainable. In other words, buying second-hand is the most straightforward means of practising the virtues of “reduce, reuse and recycle”, so not only are you saving a buck, you’re also saving the environment.
If you’re new to the thrift shopping scene, this guide shows you all the best vintage shops and bundle stores in the Klang Valley. Even if you only have RM10 in your pocket, you’d still be able to put together a très chic outfit or acquire a rare collectable at these 5 thrift shops around KL and Selangor.
With 4 different outlets in Amcorp Mall, Chia’s Cotton Chic sells pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories for women that are partially imported from Australia. Each outlet caters to a different style - one in particular features evening gowns, elegant dresses, and posh jewellery still in very good condition, while other outlets carry casual chic styles that range from RM5 to RM25. A brand you’ll frequently see here is Supré, an Australian clothing company under Cotton On. Their items often come with the original price tag still intact, so you’re really getting a new item at pre-loved prices.
One thing you shouldn’t miss at Chia’s Cotton Chic is the RM5 bargain sections, where you can consistently find branded garments from ZARA, H&M and UNIQLO, just to name a few brands. OP has scored a RM5 Dolce & Gabbana blouse here before... just be prepared for an arm workout. What’s more, the shop also showcases a wide collection of plus-size clothing, so women of all shapes and curves can definitely find their perfect fit here.
