McDonald’s is everywhere.
Based in over 120 countries, McDonald’s Golden Arches logo is the most recognised symbol in the world.
‘When in Rome’
When you travel abroad, indulging in local cuisine is an experience not to be missed. Quite obviously, the authentic flavours of local cuisine is most prevalent when it comes from its originating homeland.
With McDonald’s, your international menu choices are almost never of traditional local cuisine. However, McDonald’s manages to cater and adjust its traditional American items to accommodate for local taste-buds. Thus in reality, when you experience McDonald's abroad, the idiom ‘When in Rome’ still does apply.
Here are 5 of some of the craziest international food items sold by McDonald’s around the world:
1. Ebi Filet-O Shrimp Burger
Ebi in Japanese means prawn. Made of a patty of Panko-battered shrimp, topped with Ebi shrimp tempura sauce and lettuce, the Ebi Filet-O Shrimp Burger is surprisingly delicious. Whoever said a burger should be made of beef is very wrong. It is no wonder that this popular burger is so loved among the Japanese McDonald's customer base.

Talking about shrimp and McDonald’s. ‘Would you like fries to go with that?’ - is a very popular phrase indeed. In Russia they ask instead: ‘Would you like fries or McShrimp to go with that?’. This side dish breaded shrimp option is not common with McDonald's franchises outside of Russia, but wow is McDonald’s never afraid of putting the ‘Mc’ at the forefront of their items’ names? And yet, it works. Very well.

Imagine this. You’re in Austria, all of a sudden you start craving for some Chinese food. Not rice though. Noodles. From McDonald's. Well, whoever said dreams don’t ever come true is completely wrong. Because McDonald’s Austria is brave enough to give the Austrian people what they want. And that is Chinese food in an American fast food, Austrian implemented franchise restaurant. For a limited-time, this stir-fried noodles was easily one of the more convenient ways to relinquish your noodle cravings in Austria.

4. McCurry Pan
Indian food is known primarily for its fearless use of curry and spices. McDonald’s implements this style from India into the McCurry Pan, made of curried vegetables, baked with a cream sauce and placed inside a ‘pan’ made from bread. If you had ever wondered what it feels like to eat your meal, only then to eat the food bowl itself - here is your chance.

5. Pineapple Oreo McFlurry
Who doesn’t love an Oreo McFlurry? Soft served with some blended oreos. Yum. Now, at Columbia, you can add some pineapple filling. Um. Interesting to say the least. Sweet and tangy, you may or may not like it. At least you can’t fault McDonald’s for its crazy innovations of flavour.
